GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS: This is quite possibly the most versatile and exciting new plant selection to hit Australian shores in many years. Hardy and compact this NEW Radermachera selection; ‘Summerscent,’® has compact, dense, lush green glossy foliage and a profusion of highly scented flowers. Evergreen; it is extremely appealing for its usefulness and adaptability to so many conditions. It is drought hardy, sun, shade & cold tolerant and can be used for a variety of applications. Radermachera ‘Summerscent’® is the ‘NEW’ Murraya, it will add VALUE wherever you choose to use it, it does not set prolific seed nor will it spread into our native bush land.
USES: Radermachera ‘Summerscent’ ® makes beautiful dense screens, beautifully shaped hedges, formal topiary shapes, magnificent street trees, is brilliant indoors and makes superb pot features.
BLOOM: Large heads of bell shaped flowers, which are light pink with a gold throat and are pleasantly fragrant.
FOLIAGE: The lush glossy deep green foliage has larger and somewhat lighter green leaflets than Radermachera sinica.
HEIGHT & SPREAD: Radermachera ‘Summerscent’ ®has a dense, shrubby habit, typically attaining a compact 2-3m height and spread.
SOIL & MEDIUM: In a pot use a premium well drained potting mix. In ground, it requires a well-drained soil that is moist.
LIGHT & POSITION: Grows well in full sun and shade (indoors), requires a well-lit position indoors to flower.
NUTRITION: Fertilising with a balanced slow release fertiliser is necessary in spring and late summer.
WATER: Water when the soil on the top of the pot is dry to the touch. Be careful not to overwater the plant particularly in winter as it will develop fungal spots on the leaves. Once established in ground it has a moderately low water requirement.
PROPOGATION: Vegetative stem cuttings to remain true to type.
HARDINESS: Drought tolerant once established in ground, humidity tolerant, and frost tender when immature, generally pretty hardy.
